Government Bans 25 OTT Platforms Including Ullu And ALTT : Earlier in March, the Central Government had banned 19 websites, 10 apps and 57 social media handles for broadcasting obscene and objectionable content .

Now The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said that objectionable videos were being posted regularly on these platforms, which the authorities have deemed as soft porn content.
The central government has taken a big step against obscene videos. The government has ordered a ban on 25 OTT platforms like Ullu, Alt, Desiflix, Big Shots in India. The government has taken such a step as these platforms are releasing highly offensive and obscene videos.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said that objectionable videos were being posted regularly on these platforms. The authorities have considered this as soft porn content. By posting such obscene videos, the companies have violated the IT rules and other applicable laws in the country. The ministry had received several complaints about the dissemination of obscene videos on apps in the name of erotic web series.

After receiving repeated complaints, the ministry has directed internet service providers in India to ban 25 OTT platforms, including Ullu and ALTT. The government has taken this step to ensure that pornographic content does not reach the public, especially minors, easily.

Why was it banned?
The ministry has banned all these apps under Sections 67 and 67A of the Information Technology Act 2000, Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Prevention of Indecent Representation of Women Act, 1968. All these provisions prohibit the production and dissemination of obscene videos.
