India Pakistan Conflict Indian Government Bans Pakistani Films, Web Series

India Pakistan Conflict – In a significant move, the Government of India has directed all online streaming platforms, OTT services and digital intermediaries to immediately stop streaming Pakistani films, web series, etc. The directive, issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), cited national security concerns and the need to maintain India’s sovereignty and integrity.

The formal advisory issued on May 8, 2025, which is aimed at publishers of online curated content, media streaming platforms and intermediaries, has been decided under Part III of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. As per these guidelines, the advisory specifically mentions that all OTT platforms and media streaming services must, with immediate effect, “stop streaming of web series, films, songs, podcasts and other streaming media content originating from Pakistan, whether available on a subscription-based model or otherwise.” The directive comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan over recent terror incidents and ongoing diplomatic tensions.
