Former Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar Appointed As UPSC Chairman
UPSC Chairman- Former Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The post fell vacant after the term of Preeti Sudan ended on April 29. Ajay Kumar is a retired IAS officer of the 1985 batch Kerala cadre. He was the country’s Defense Secretary from 23 August 2019 to 31 October 2022. Former IAS officer Ajay Kumar has been the longest-serving Secretary in the Ministry of Defense.
Interestingly, Ajay Kumar was also part of the core team that implemented the ‘Digital India’ initiative, which was launched in 2014. Ajay Kumar holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. After that, he earned a master’s degree in economics from the University of Minnesota, USA. In addition, he completed his PhD in business administration from the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota.
