Will Rohit-Virat Play The 2027 ODI World Cup? After retiring from Test cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will hardly be able to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup. This is what former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar believes. Gavaskar said that after resigning from T20 International and now Test cricket, their chances of playing in the ODI World Cup will be greatly affected.
Gavaskar told ‘Sports Today’, ‘No, I don’t think he will play (ODI World Cup)’. He said, ‘To be very honest, I don’t think he will play till then. However, there is a possibility that he will get into a great rhythm in the next one year and keep scoring centuries. If this happens, even God will not be able to keep him out of the team.’
The pair of Rohit and Virat played an important role in helping India win the Champions Trophy title. Gavaskar said, ‘They are performing very well in this format of the game. Do we think they will be in the team for the 2027 World Cup? Will they be able to make the kind of contribution they are known for?’
He said, ‘The selection committee will have to think a lot on this. If the selection committee feels that they will contribute to the team as much as they are doing now, then both these players can retain their place.’
Gavaskar is not surprised by Kohli’s decision to retire
Former India captain Gavaskar is not surprised by Kohli’s decision to retire. He said that both the players must have taken this decision only after talking to the selectors. He appreciated that they parted ways with the national team on their own terms. Gavaskar said, ‘Everyone wanted both these players to say goodbye to the game on their own terms and that is what happened.’
