FIR Against Virat Kohli Over Bengaluru Stampede During RCB’s IPL 2025 Victory Celebration
Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede: Police complaint filed against Virat Kohli: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Indian team star batsman Virat Kohli also seems to be embroiled in the Bangalore stampede case. Social activist HM Venkatesh has filed a complaint against Kohli, blaming him for the accident. RCB won the IPL 2025 title by defeating Punjab Kings on Tuesday(June 3). This was the first IPL title for this franchise, after which it was decided to celebrate in Bangalore.
FIR not registered yet:
Police sources told news agency PTI that no FIR has been registered against Kohli on the complaint of social activist Venkatesh. Venkatesh has held Kohli responsible for the stampede during RCB’s title win. RCB’s victory was celebrated in Bangalore on Wednesday. For this, a program was organized at Chinnaswamy Stadium, but due to the large crowd, a stampede occurred outside the stadium, and 11 people died, and more than 50 people were injured.
The victim had lodged an FIR against RCB.
Earlier, a victim named Venu had lodged an FIR against RCB and Karnataka State Cricket Association at Cubbon Park police station and held them responsible for the stampede. Earlier, Karnataka Police had lodged an FIR against RCB, event management firm DNA Entertainment Private Limited, and KSCA on Thursday. After which Karnataka State Cricket Association had approached the High Court and had asked the court to quash the FIR registered in the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede case. KSCA got a big relief from the Karnataka High Court. While hearing the case, the court stayed the punitive action against the officials of the state cricket association.
The celebration of victory turned into mourning
The RCB franchise had decided to celebrate this historic victory with the home fans. The IPL 2025 champion RCB team reached Bangalore from Ahmedabad on Wednesday. The champion players were given a grand welcome on reaching Bangalore. There was a huge crowd of fans from Bangalore Airport to the team hotel and outside the Karnataka Vidhan Soudha. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar welcomed the IPL-winning team RCB at the Bangalore airport. RCB players were honored at the Vidhan Soudha, in which Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot were also present. The RCB team then went to the Chinnaswamy Stadium, but there was a stampede there before the program.
Did KSCA ask for permission?
New information has come to light in the recent stampede in Bangalore. KSCA had asked for permission for RCB’s IPL trophy celebration at Vidhana Soudha. This has been confirmed by a letter sent to the state government. A letter written by KSCA to the state government on June 3 shows that the state cricket association had sought permission for DNA Entertainment Networks to celebrate Vidhana Soudha. KSCA said that the concerned company will make the necessary arrangements for the event.
