AFP quoted paramedics as saying that the 39-year-old right-wing opposition senator was shot three times. The reports say that the MP Miguel Uribe Turbay got shot twice in the head and once in the knee on Saturday when armed criminals stormed an election campaign rally in the capital, Bogota. Uribe was shot in the head:
Uribe’s party, the Democratic Center, issued a statement calling the incident an “unacceptable act of violence”. His party said that the incident took place in a park in Fontibon when armed attackers shot the MP from behind. In the viral pictures on social media, Uribe can be seen being held by several people, covered in blood. He has probably suffered a head injury. So far, no official information has been shared about the condition of the senator.

Bogota Mayor Carlos Galan shared a post on ‘X’ saying that the suspected attacker has been arrested, but the federal government said that a reward has been announced for the capture of those responsible for the attack. Uribe is a right-wing senator, and his mother was a journalist. His mother was kidnapped and killed by a criminal gang. Uribe is considered a potential candidate for Colombia’s presidential election to be held in May 2026.
