PM Awas Yojana: Know How To Apply: To provide permanent houses to the poor people of the country, a scheme named Indira Awas Yojana was started in 1996. However, after 2014, a review found that this scheme needs improvement. On April 1, 2016, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin’ (PM Awas Yojana-G). This scheme aimed to provide permanent houses to those who do not have a roof over their head or who are forced to live in slums.
What is the objective of the scheme?
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is the flagship scheme of the Central Government aimed at providing pucca houses to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Low Income Group (LIG), and other disadvantaged communities.
The plan has two major parts.
- PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U): For urban poor
- PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G): For rural areas
- Eligibility for PMAY-U
- The applicant should not have any permanent residence in India
- EWS: Annual income up to ₹3 lakh
- LIG: ₹3 lakh to ₹6 lakh
- MIG-I: ₹6 lakh to ₹9 lakh
- Slum dwellers, street vendors, daily wage labourers, migrant workers, widowed women, SC/ST/OBC/minority category women are also eligible.
2. Eligibility for PMAY-G
- Rural families registered in the SECC list
- Those who do not have a permanent house or have only a kuchha house with 1-2 rooms
- Those who have large land, vehicles, or taxable assets are not eligible
How to apply for PMAY-U?
- Visit pmaymis.gov.in
- Click on ‘Apply for PMAY-U 2.0’
- Verify by OTP with Aadhaar number
- Fill the form along with the required documents and submit it
How to apply for PMAY-G?
- Visit pmayg. nic. in
- Fill in the personal details and upload the consent letter
- Verify the name in the SECC list
- Submit bank and scheme details through the local authorities
Documents required for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
- Self Attested copy of Aadhar Card, Thumb Impression if applicant is illiterate
- Job card issued by MNREGA
- Complete details of bank account and its photocopy too
- Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) Number
- Affidavit in which the beneficiary has to write that he does not have any permanent house
