Mayday Call On Chennai Bound Indigo Flight From Guwahati Over Low Fuel

IndiGo Flight Issued ‘Fuel Mayday’ Call: Flight Makes Emergency Landing At Bengaluru: During the Ahmedabad plane crash, the Mayday call was much talked about. This call is made by the pilot when there is some danger to the plane and the situation goes out of control. Not even 10 days have passed since the Ahmedabad plane crash, and now a Mayday call has been made by the pilot from an Indigo flight

According to sources, IndiGo flight 6E 6764 from Guwahati to Chennai on Thursday had to be diverted to Bengaluru after the pilot issued a ‘fuel mayday’ call due to insufficient fuel. The congestion at Chennai airport prevented the plane from landing there on time. There were passengers on board the plane during the emergency diversion. In such a situation, the flight landed safely in Bengaluru at 8:15 pm. That is, the flight that was going to Chennai had to land in Bengaluru.

What is a Fuel Mayday call?

When the aircraft runs out of fuel and the plane is in danger, a Mayday call is made by the pilot of the aircraft. This call is part of the international aviation communication protocol. It means that the situation is critical and something has to be done immediately.

The word Mayday is derived from the French word “m’aider” (help). A pilot uses this call when the aircraft’s fuel drops below the minimum fuel level, and the pilot feels that landing may be delayed or the aircraft may crash. This call is used in the aviation and maritime fields.

The purpose of a fuel Mayday call is that the plane is in danger, and the plane and the people on board have to be secured in any way. If the pilot has made a Mayday call, it means that the plane has to be allowed to land immediately. This reduces the risk of an accident. As per international rules, if a Mayday call has come from an aircraft, it has to be given the highest priority, and arrangements have to be made for its landing. Let us tell you that during the Ahmedabad plane crash, the pilot had made MayDay calls several times.
