Bangladesh Ex-PM Hasina Sentenced to 6 Months in Jail Neighbours

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sentenced to 6 months in jail : Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to six months in prison in a contempt of court case. According to a Bangladeshi media report, the sentence was given by the International Criminal Court. The three-member jury delivered the verdict on Wednesday.

Sheikh Hasina sentenced to 6 months in jail

According to a report by ‘Dhaka Tune’, Justice Mohammad Ghulam Murtaza Majumdar heard the case. According to information, an audio clip of Sheikh Hasina was leaked last year. In this audio clip, Sheikh Hasina is talking to Gobindganj Upazila Chairman Shakeel Bulbul. In it, she is saying that 277 cases have been filed against me. So I have got a license to kill all these people.

The first person sentenced to two months in prison in this case is Shakeel Bulbul. Bulbul is a senior politician and is associated with the Bangladesh Students League, the student wing of the Awami League.

Sheikh Hasina was dismissed from the post of Prime Minister on August 2024. Subsequently, violent protests were held in Bangladesh by Students Against Discrimination. The movement was against changes in reservation in government jobs. Foreign media reported that 14 hundred people were killed in this movement. 

Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina fled the country to India amid such violent protests. Three days after Hasina left the country, Muhammad Yunus took charge as the interim Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
