PM Narendra Modi receives Namibia’s highest civilian award
PM Modi Conferred With Namibia’s Highest Civilian Award: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be awarded Namibia’s highest civilian honor ‘Order of the Most Ancient Welwitsia Mirabilis’. This honor is being given to him for his contribution to strengthening the relations between the two countries.
Prime Minister Modi reached Namibia for the first time
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, on Wednesday morning (local time). This is his first visit to Namibia. So far, an Indian Prime Minister has visited this African country only three times. PM Modi is making this visit on the official invitation of Namibia’s President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
During this visit, Prime Minister Modi was awarded Namibia’s highest civilian honour, ‘Order of the Most Ancient Welwitsia Mirabilis’. This is the fourth time he has received this honour during his current visit to five countries, while this is his 27th highest civilian honour received from foreign nations.
On receiving the honour, PM Modi said, “It is a matter of great pride and honour for me to be honoured with the ‘Order of the Most Ancient Welwitsia Mirabilis’. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the President, the Government of Namibia, and the people of Namibia. I humbly accept this honour on behalf of 140 crore Indians.”
India-Namibia discuss strategic cooperation
Important talks took place between PM Modi and the Namibian President regarding cooperation in areas such as digital technology, defence, security, agriculture, health, education, and critical minerals. Apart from this, emphasis was also laid on promoting relations in the field of trade, energy, and petrochemicals.
PM Modi wrote on Twitter, “Our talks focused on issues like digital technology, defense, agriculture, healthcare, and education. I expressed gratitude for the cooperation given by Namibia in Project Cheetah.”
PM Modi Receives Namibia’s Highest Civilian Award: Four important agreements signed
During this visit, four agreements were signed between India and Namibia. These included cooperation in the health and medical sector, establishment of an entrepreneurship development centre in Namibia, implementation of the CDRI framework, and agreements on the Global Biofuels Alliance framework.
During his visit, PM Modi paid tribute to Namibia’s first President, Sam Nujoma. He became the first President of the independent country in 1990 and held the post for 15 years. Modi paid tribute to him by visiting the Heroes Acre National Memorial.
