17 July Odisha Bandh : Know What Will Remain Open, What Will Be Closed . The opposition is taking to the streets targeting the government on this issue. All the opposition parties are creating a ruckus demanding justice. Today, eight political parties, including the Congress, have called for a 12-hour Odisha bandh demanding justice for the aggrieved student and respect and security for women in the state.
The entire state is reeling over the suicide and death of a student of Balasore Fakirmohan College. The opposition is targeting the government on this issue and taking to the streets. All opposition parties are creating a ruckus demanding justice. Today, eight political parties, including the Congress, have called for a 12-hour Odisha bandh demanding justice for the ailing student and respect and security for women in the state.

PCC Chairman Bhakta Das’s appeal : 17 July Odisha Bandh
PCC President Bhakta Das on Wednesday appealed to the public to observe the bandh tomorrow through the media. The bandh is being supported by 8 political parties including the Congress and various organizations. The bandh has been called to provide justice to the deceased student and to protest against the increasing violence against women in the state. He appealed to everyone to join the bandh and to support each other by staying at home. He urged everyone to cooperate with the deceased student as their sister and daughter and to bear the inconvenience caused due to the bandh. He apologized in advance for this inconvenience. He said that it was necessary to maintain balance as the atrocities against women are increasing in the state and to create pressure on the government. He also appealed to essential services, examinees, patients and people coming from the airport to refrain from the bandh. He informed that the bandh will be observed peacefully. An important movement has been created in Odisha on women’s safety, law and order and the justice system. Political parties supporting the bandh have also stated that this fight will continue from the streets to Parliament until women’s safety and the rule of law are established in the state.
Will it be closed?
A statewide shutdown will be observed from 6 am to 6 pm tomorrow. This shutdown has also received support from various quarters. In view of the appeals and picketing of political parties, shops, markets and business establishments, buses, autos and other public transport services will remain closed in the state. There is a possibility that government and private transport services will be disrupted. While the association has announced that petrol pumps will remain closed, government and private schools, colleges and educational institutions will also remain closed. Courts, banks, insurance and public sector enterprises will also remain closed. However, essential services such as ambulances, hospitals, medicine shops and fire services will remain suspended due to this shutdown.
BJD’s moral support
The state’s main opposition party, BJD, has not directly joined the 12-hour shutdown tomorrow, but has signaled its moral support. Responding to the issue of tomorrow’s shutdown call, party vice-president Pratap Jena said, “We will respect those who raise their voices on the issue of Balasore student suicide.”
