Vastu Guidelines for Balconies Based on Direction
The balcony of the house is important from the point of view of Vastu Shastra, although we are not able to pay much attention to it. If the balcony is built according to Vastu Shastra and its maintenance is also done as per Vastu instructions, then it plays an important role in providing the benefit of positive energy to the entire house or flat.

Regardless of direction, the balcony should always be kept clean and clutter-free, as it acts as an entry point for cosmic energy through windows and doors. A dirty or congested balcony can allow negative energy to enter the home, creating restlessness and imbalance.
East-Facing Balcony
- Use the middle part of this balcony to offer water to the Sun each morning.
- The positive rays of the Sun God enter from this direction, so avoid placing heavy or large items here.
- You may keep a Tulsi plant, but ensure the pot is not too heavy.
- Do not store broken items, junk, or unused household items in this area.
West-Facing Balcony
- After noon, it’s advisable to cover the balcony with a curtain, as weaker or negative energy tends to enter from the west.
- This direction can handle heavier pots or plants, so you may decorate with them accordingly.
North-Facing Balcony
- Keep this balcony as clean and organized as the east-facing one.
- If designing a house, consider building a large balcony in the north-east corner (spanning east, north, and north-east).
- A balcony in this area brings a broad energy base and promotes positive energy flow into the building.
South-Facing Balcony
- Decorate this space with tall plants, hanging flowers, or decorative creepers.
- You may store a few less-used household items neatly in one section of the balcony.
- If it is at the front of the house, you can use larger plants for decoration, enhancing aesthetics while still following Vastu principles.
