The administrators of ‘Ganga Seva Nidhi’ said on Thursday that the traditional aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat is still being performed on the roofs. Due to the lower part being submerged in water, cremation at Harishchandra and Manikarnika Ghat is being done on the roofs.

Due to the continuous monsoon rains in North India, all the rivers including Ganga are in spate. In Varanasi, Ganga has swelled so much that all the arrangements on the ghats have become chaotic. Due to water filling in the lower parts of the ghats, Ganga Aarti is being done on the roofs. At the same time, the situation is terrible due to floods on all the ghats including Dashashwamedh Ghat, Assi Ghat. The same situation is at Manikarnika Ghat and Harishchandra Ghat, due to which cremation is also being done on the roofs.

According to news agency PTI, the water level of Ganga is rising again after decreasing in the last few days. On Thursday morning, the water level of Ganga crossed the danger mark of 70.26 meters and reached 70.91 meters.

Aarti and cremation are being done on the rooftops
The administrators of the Ganga Seva Nidhi, the organization that organizes the aarti, said on Thursday that due to floodwater in the lower parts of Dashashwamedh Ghat, the traditional aarti is still being performed on the rooftops.

He said that due to the lower part being submerged in water, cremation work is being done on the roofs at Harishchandra and Manikarnika Ghat. Sheetla Mata temple located at Dashashwamedh Ghat is submerged.

The district administration has directed the concerned departments to remain alert in view of the rising water level of the rivers and possible flood situation in the district.

Flood relief camps are being reopened
District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar said that the municipal corporation officials have been instructed to ensure proper cleanliness of the premises and toilets of the relief camps, and to regularly spray anti-larvae and fog in waterlogged areas. Along with this, flood relief camps are being reactivated.

Along with Ganga, Varuna river is also in spate
Along with the Ganga, the Varuna river is also in spate, due to which the situation in the coastal areas has started deteriorating again. Water is entering areas like Shakkar Talab, Purana Pul, Nakkhi Ghat, Pulkohana and Deendayalpur. Due to the flood, more than 100 people have been forced to leave their homes and go to safer places.
