India-Nepal Flight Operations Suspended: Over 700 Indians Stranded Amid Protests

Due to the ongoing massive protests in Nepal, all airports in the country, including Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, have been closed till 12 noon on Wednesday. All flights were stopped from 2 pm on Tuesday due to the increasing unrest. After this decision, hundreds of passengers are stranded in Nepal as no plane could take off or land since Tuesday afternoon.

Air traffic between the two countries has been temporarily suspended due to the ongoing unrest in Nepal. India’s two major airlines, Air India and IndiGo, have suspended flight services to Nepal. Similarly, Nepal Airlines has also suspended flights to India. Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport has also been closed due to protests and violence. Air India operates six flights daily from New Delhi to Kathmandu. However, Air India has announced that passengers who had booked tickets between the 9th and 11th will be refunded for their tickets. About 700 Indian passengers are stranded at the Tribhuvan International Airport due to the suspension of flight services between India and Nepal. They are unable to even leave the airport.

The decision to open the airport will be made after Wednesday afternoon, following a review of the security and situation at Tribhuvan International Airport. Currently, the Nepali Army has taken command both inside and outside the airport; however, given the current situation, the overall security of the aircraft and passengers remains a serious concern.

Travel advisory of the Indian government regarding Nepal
In view of this political turmoil, the Indian government has issued a travel advisory regarding Nepal. Indian citizens have been advised to postpone their travel to Nepal for the time being. Air India has cancelled its flights to Kathmandu.

The situation in Nepal is deteriorating rapidly
The current situation in Nepal is deteriorating rapidly. Massive protests are going on in many major cities including the capital Kathmandu. A large number of youth and common citizens are participating in these protests. There have also been reports of violence at many places during the protests. Amid the rapidly deteriorating situation, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has resigned from his post.
