Kannada Actor Darshan Breaks Down in Court, Requests ‘Poison’ Over Jail Conditions in Renukaswamy Murder Case
Renukaswamy Murder Case: Kannada Actor Darshan Breaks Down In Court: Actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, who is currently lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in connection with the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case, broke down emotionally during a court hearing on Tuesday. Appearing via video conferencing at the City Civil and Sessions Court, Darshan pleaded for a transfer to Ballari Jail, citing poor health, fungal infections, and being deprived of sunlight for over 30 days. When the court denied his request, the actor broke down and said, “Give me poison, or please pass this order.” The judge sternly reprimanded him and asked him not to repeat such statements.
The court acknowledged his complaints about unsanitary conditions and directed jail authorities to allow him limited movement inside the prison. The judge also ordered that Darshan be provided with a pillow and bedsheet, as per jail norms. However, the request for transfer was rejected due to a lack of sufficient grounds. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for September 19, and the court warned that the prison department could intervene if there is any misbehavior or violation of rules.
Darshan is accused, along with actress Pavitra Gowda and others, in the kidnapping and murder of 33-year-old fan Renukaswamy, who allegedly sent obscene messages to Pavitra. Arrested in June 2024 from Chitradurga, Darshan was previously accused of receiving special treatment while in jail. Although he was granted bail by the High Court, it was later cancelled by the Supreme Court, leading to his re-incarceration under stricter conditions.
