Earthquake With Magnitude 5.8 Hits Assam: A strong earthquake struck Assam this afternoon, creating panic among residents across several districts. The epicentre was located in Udalguri district at a shallow depth of five kilometres, causing significant tremors that led people to flee their homes, shops, and workplaces in fear.

According to seismic reports, the earthquake measured 5.8 on the Richter scale. Its effects were felt not only in Udalguri but also in nearby regions and neighboring states like West Bengal and even across the border in Bhutan. Although there were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage, household items like fans and electric fittings were seen shaking during the quake.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the public on social media platform X, confirming the magnitude and location of the earthquake. He assured that no major damage or loss of life has been reported so far and stated that the administration is closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety.
