President Murmu to Travel to Mathura on ‘Presidential Special Train’ Maharaja Express On September 25
President Murmu Travels to Mathura by Luxury Train Today: President Droupadi Murmu is set to embark on a special journey to Mathura-Vrindavan on September 25 aboard the luxurious Maharaja Express, which has been designated as the “Presidential Special Train” for this occasion. The train will run from New Delhi Railway Station to Mathura and marks a continuation of a long tradition of Indian Presidents traveling by rail. The historic saloon, once used by Presidents from Dr. Rajendra Prasad to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, has carried numerous foreign dignitaries as well.
In preparation for the President’s journey, Indian Railways and Rashtrapati Bhavan officials have ramped up security and logistical measures. Loco pilots and guards have undergone training in special protocols, and a safety train will be dispatched ahead of the Presidential Special. This will be followed by an inspection vehicle from top railway officials, ensuring the track is secure before the President’s train departs. The saloon used by former Presidents like Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Ramnath Kovind has now been retired and preserved as a heritage item.
With the original Presidential Saloon, built in 1956, now housed at the National Rail Museum due to its outdated specifications, the President’s Office has turned to modern luxury trains for official travel. Four iconic trains—the Maharaja Express, Palace on Wheels, Deccan Odyssey, and Royal Orient Express—have been designated for Presidential journeys across different regions of India. These trains combine historic elegance with modern security and comfort, maintaining the dignity and tradition of Presidential rail travel in a new era.
