IAS Rajiv Verma has proven himself by holding various responsibilities in various departments of the Central Government, from Arunachal Pradesh, Puducherry, and Chandigarh.

1992 batch IAS officer, hails from UP
Rajiv Verma is a 1992 batch IAS officer from the AGMUT cadre. He is considered an officer with experience in various states and union territories. He has previously served as Chief Secretary in states like Arunachal Pradesh and Puducherry. He also served as Advisor to the Administrator in Chandigarh until early 2025. In June 2024, the Central Government appointed him as Secretary. However, he hails from Uttar Pradesh.

From studies to first posting
Born on December 12, 1966, in Uttar Pradesh, Rajiv Verma earned a B.Tech and M.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Roorkee. He also holds an MA (Economics) degree. While still a student, he became interested in civil service and began preparing for the UPSC. At the age of 25, he was selected for the civil service and joined the AGMUT cadre. His first posting was as SDM in Aizawl, Mizoram, in 1994.
Old relationship with Delhi too
Rajiv Verma has a deep connection to Delhi. From 2018 to 2022, he served as Principal Secretary and Commissioner of the Finance and Revenue Department in the Delhi government. During this time, he initiated several initiatives to increase tax collection, bring financial transparency, and simplify the tax system.
Also played an important role in DDA and Ministry of Defence
From 2017-2018, he served as Principal Commissioner of Housing and Urban Affairs at the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). There, he played a key role in addressing challenges related to urbanization and housing. Prior to this, he served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defense from 2013 to 2017, handling issues related to national security.
Rajiv Verma is known for administrative reforms
As Chief Secretary in Puducherry, he spearheaded administrative reforms. As Chief Secretary in Chandigarh, he introduced innovative models to address local problems. He is recognized among officers as a man with a unique approach and integrity.
