Six new Kendriya Vidyalayas to open in Odisha
In a major push to strengthen the education infrastructure across India, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of 57 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in the civilian sector, including six in Odisha.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for this significant decision, stating that the new schools will address the long-standing demand for quality education in underserved regions. “These KVs will play a crucial role in fulfilling the educational aspirations of students across India, especially in Odisha,” he said.
The total estimated cost for setting up the 57 schools is ₹5862.55 crore, including a capital expenditure of ₹2585.52 crore and a recurring cost of ₹3277.03 crore for running them.
Aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, this is the first time these newly approved KVs will include ‘Baal Batika’ — a dedicated setup for three years of pre-primary or early childhood education. This reflects the government’s emphasis on foundational learning as a core component of quality education.
This new batch of schools comes in addition to the 85 Kendriya Vidyalayas approved earlier, marking a continued commitment to expand access to uniform, high-quality education across the country. The inclusion of early childhood education underlines a future-forward approach, aiming to lay a strong learning foundation from the earliest years.
With this move, the government reaffirms its goal of educational equity and excellence, as envisioned in NEP 2020, aiming to empower students from all backgrounds with holistic, inclusive learning opportunities.
