Mild Earthquake of Magnitude 4.9 Strikes Pakistan: No Damage Reported
Earthquake Tremors Felt In Pakistan, Magnitude 4.9: Two earthquakes struck different regions of Pakistan in the early hours of Saturday, causing mild tremors but no reported damage or casualties so far.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) in India, a magnitude 4.9 earthquake occurred at 01:59 AM IST (01:29 AM local time) with its epicenter in Pakistan, located at latitude 28.30° N and longitude 65.25° E, and at a shallow depth of 10 km.
Meanwhile, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 5.2 earthquake near Dalbandin in Chagai District of Balochistan, occurring around the same time. This tremor was measured at a depth of 35 km, and although no damage has been reported, mild shaking was likely felt in nearby areas including Dalbandin, which lies 78 km from the epicenter.
Other seismic monitoring agencies, such as the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) and the RaspberryShake network, measured the magnitude slightly lower at 4.8. These variations are common in initial reports and may be revised as more data becomes available.
Earlier Earthquake in Karachi
Just two days prior, on October 2, a magnitude 3.2 earthquake was recorded in Karachi, with its epicenter 7 km northwest of Malir at a depth of 10 km, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
Though none of these tremors caused significant damage, authorities remain alert, and seismologists continue to monitor seismic activity in the region closely.
