Cyclone ‘Shakti’ Is Gathering Strength In The Arabian Sea : Cyclone ‘Shakti’ is gathering strength in the Arabian Sea. It is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm. It is 270 km southwest of Naliya. It is moving west-southwest at a speed of 8 to 12 km per hour. The wind speed is 65 km per hour. The sea is rough due to the cyclone off the Gujarat-Maharashtra coast. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till October 6. Cyclone ‘Shakti’ has been named by Sri Lanka. ‘Shakti’ means strength. This is the first cyclone of the current cyclone season.

The deep depression centered over the northeast Arabian Sea is moving west-northwestwards. The deep depression is 240 km from Dwarka and 270 km from Porbandar. It is located 400 km south of Karachi, Pakistan. It has been moving west-northwestwards at a speed of 13 kmph for the last 6 hours. It will intensify further into a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours. It is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours, the IMD has predicted. The Arabian Sea will remain turbulent from October 3 to 6. Gujarat, North Maharashtra and Pakistan coasts will remain extremely turbulent till October 5.

Meanwhile, the state is witnessing heavy rains due to the deep depression. Due to heavy to very heavy rains, Gajapati district has witnessed a flood like Uttarakhand. Water is flowing on the roads. Water has entered houses, cars are submerged. In some places, both roads and culverts have been washed away. In many places, huge trees have fallen on the roads, obstructing traffic. A landslide has occurred on the rugged hills of the Ghati near Papaiju village in Mohana block and a landslide has occurred. As a result, traffic in more than 20 villages has been completely blocked.
