Sonam Wangchuk’s Hearing monday , he released or sent to jail
Sonam Wangchuk’s Plea To Be Heard Tomorrow : On October 2, Geetanjali Angmo, wife of Sonam Wangchuk, a prominent Ladakh climate activist, filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging his arrest under the NSA and seeking his release. The Supreme Court has scheduled October 6 for hearing the petition. The case will be heard by a bench comprising Justices Arvind Kumar and N.V. Anjania.
In fact, the government had blamed Sonam Wangchuk for the violent protests in Ladakh. Wangchuk was arrested on September 24th following the Leh violence. He is currently imprisoned in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Geetanjali approached the Supreme Court seeking Wangchuk’s release.
Geetanjali spoke on Pakistan relations
Comments were being made about Sonam Wangchuk, alleging that he had ties to Pakistan. Responding to these comments, Geetanjali said that Sonam had attended a conference in Pakistan. She explained that the United Nations and Dawn Media had jointly organized a conference on the environment, and Wangchuk had gone to Pakistan to participate in that conference. Geetanjali asked, “What’s wrong with that?”
accused of being a traitor
Sonam Wangchuk’s wife, Geetanjali, has raised questions about his arrest under the NSA. She said Wangchuk is being portrayed as a traitor. She said Wangchuk is being defamed to weaken the state’s Sixth Schedule movement. Geetanjali added that “not only that, but a kind of espionage is going on against us.”
A day before filing the petition in the Supreme Court, he had asked President Draupadi Murmu to intervene. Furthermore, he has appealed to Prime Minister Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah, and Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta, among others, for Wangchuk’s release.
