Bihar Assembly elections before November 22, 100% webcasting: Election Commission
The Election Commission of India has announced that the Bihar Assembly elections will be completed before November 22, the date on which the term of the current assembly ends. In a press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Jnanesh Kumar revealed a series of significant electoral reforms aimed at improving transparency, accessibility, and security during the upcoming elections.
There are 243 assembly seats in Bihar, and preparations are underway to ensure a smooth and efficient election process.
Key Announcements:
- Election Deadline: Voting and results for all 243 seats will be concluded before November 22.
- Booth Management:
- No more than 1,200 voters will be assigned to a single polling booth.
- The voter slip number will now be displayed in large letters at each booth to help voters easily identify their polling station.
- Mobile phone deposit facilities will be made available outside all 90,000 polling booths.
- Voter Identification:
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will carry official ID cards to verify their identity when interacting with voters. - Digital Integration & Monitoring:
- A one-stop digital platform will be launched to streamline various election-related services.
- There will be 100% webcasting from all polling booths to enhance transparency and monitoring.
- Candidates will now be able to appoint agents within 100 meters of the polling booths.
- EVM Ballot Paper Update:
The ballot papers in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will now feature colored photographs of the candidates, replacing the earlier black-and-white format.
SIR Process Successful in Bihar
The Chief Election Commissioner also confirmed the successful implementation of the SIR process (Systematic Information and Revision), aimed at refining the electoral rolls and improving voter services in the state.
The Election Commission has appealed to all political parties, candidates, and voters to cooperate fully and uphold democratic values during the election process. Voters are encouraged to check their names on the electoral rolls and participate actively in this technologically upgraded and inclusive election.
