Qatar Airways Vegetarian Passenger Chokes To Death After Eat Around’ Meat-Based Meal : A vegetarian passenger died on a Qatar Airways flight after allegedly being served non-vegetarian food. The family of the 85-year-old passenger has filed a new wrongful death lawsuit against the airline. According to reports, the passenger was denied a vegetarian meal and was asked to eat a meal based on non-vegetarian food. The incident occurred in July 2023 during a flight from Los Angeles to Colombo.
Ashok Jayasiri, a California cardiologist, died after choking on meat served on a flight. The Independent reports that an emergency landing could not be made because the plane was flying over the Arctic Circle or the ocean. However, Jayasini’s son claimed in the complaint that the plane was actually not over the Arctic region or the ocean, but over the US Midwest.
He alleged that the pilot could have easily changed his course. The complaint further stated that when the plane landed at Edinburgh Airport in Scotland, Jayasiri had been unconscious for approximately three and a half hours. He was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
According to reports, Jayasiri died of aspiration pneumonia, an infection caused by inhaling food or liquids into the lungs.
His son, Surya Jayasiri, has filed a lawsuit against the airline seeking compensation for negligence and wrongful death.
