Most young people in the city, including children, are seen wearing earphones or AirPods almost all day—from morning walks to meals, and even while lying in bed at night. This constant use has become a fashion statement but is causing a rise in hearing problems among the youth. Additionally, wearing earphones distracts users from important environmental sounds like vehicle horns, increasing the risk of accidents.

2. Health Risks Linked to Prolonged Earphone Use

Numerous national and international studies, along with doctors, warn that the habit of prolonged earphone use leads to serious health issues. These include hearing loss, lifestyle problems, social isolation, and depression. Listening to loud music, web series, and films on mobile devices at high volume levels aggravates these conditions, damaging the fine nerves in the ear responsible for hearing.

Extended use of earphones can cause ears to become numb and lead to symptoms such as ringing in the ears (tinnitus), dizziness, headaches, insomnia, and earaches. Wearing earphones or earbuds pushes earwax back into the ear canal, which can cause blockages and infections since earwax naturally resides only in the outer one-third of the ear. This further contributes to hearing issues and discomfort.
