Kedarnath Ropeway to Cut Travel Time to 36 Minutes; Adani Group Begins ₹4,081 Crore Project

PKedarnath Ropeway: Now Take Only 36 Minutes Instead Of 9 Hours: Pilgrims heading to Kedarnath Dham have reason to rejoice, as the Adani Group has begun work on a major ropeway project that promises to drastically reduce travel time. The 12.9-kilometer-long ropeway will cut down the current nine-hour, 13-kilometer trek to just 36 minutes. This ambitious initiative is set to make one of India’s most difficult pilgrimages significantly more accessible and comfortable.

With an estimated cost of ₹4,081 crore, the project falls under the Government of India’s National Ropeway Development Program, Parvatmala, and is being developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Once completed, the ropeway will have the capacity to transport 1,800 passengers per hour in one direction, offering a safer and more efficient option for the millions of devotees who visit Kedarnath each year.

The ropeway is expected to take approximately six years to complete. Upon inauguration, it will stand as a key milestone in improving pilgrimage infrastructure in the region. By reducing both the time and physical effort required to reach the shrine, the ropeway aims to enhance the spiritual experience for devotees while also boosting tourism and local development.
