Hong Kong Plane Crash: Boeing 747 Overshoots Runway, Kills 2

Hong Kong Plane Crash: Skids Off Runway at Airport, Falls Into Sea: 2 Killed: A tragic accident occurred at Hong Kong International Airport in the early hours of Monday, October 20, when a Turkish-operated Boeing 747 cargo plane skidded off the northern runway during landing and crashed into the sea. The aircraft, flying from Dubai, was leased by Turkey’s ACT Airlines and carried an Emirates flight number, although it was not operating under Emirates Airlines. Local authorities confirmed that two ground personnel lost their lives after the aircraft collided with an airport patrol car, pushing it into the water.

According to Steven Yiu, Executive Director of Hong Kong Airport Operations, the runway overshoot led to a direct collision with the parked security vehicle, resulting in a partial submersion of the plane. Footage from the scene shows the tail section broken and visible damage to the front of the aircraft. Fortunately, all four crew members aboard the plane were rescued and taken to a local hospital. One ground staff member was initially reported missing but was later accounted for, according to rescue officials.

The northern runway was immediately shut down, and a large-scale rescue operation involving over 200 personnel, fire trucks, and boats was launched. The South China Morning Post reported that the plane was not carrying cargo at the time. ACT Airlines, known for providing spare cargo capacity, has not yet released a detailed statement on the incident. Investigations into the cause of the runway overshoot are currently underway.
