First Spell of Winter Grips the State, Koraput Shivers in Dense Fog, Light Fog in Rourkela: Winter has firmly set in across the state, bringing a noticeable chill over the past few days. Temperatures have dropped by around 5 degrees in several regions over the last three days, and in the past 24 hours alone, many areas have recorded a fall of about 3 degrees. The mercury has dipped below 15°C in many districts, marking the beginning of the winter season.

Phulbani has emerged as the coldest city in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 12.5°C. Dense fog has been reported in Koraput, while Rourkela and nearby areas are experiencing light fog. The drop in visibility during early morning hours has affected road travel in some regions, prompting authorities to urge drivers to maintain caution.

According to weather officials, the fall in temperature is due to the influx of dry, cold air from the northwest under the influence of a westerly cyclone. The chill is expected to intensify further as night temperatures may drop by another 2–4°C over the next two days. Residents are advised to stay warm and take necessary precautions against the cold and foggy conditions.
