IMD Warns of Heavy Rain in Tamil Nadu; Cyclone Formation Expected Around Nov 22–23
Cyclone Alert: Low-Pressure System Over Bay of Bengal May Hit Tamil Nadu Around Nov 22–23: Meteorologists are closely monitoring weather developments in the Bay of Bengal, where another cyclone is likely to form towards the end of November. Although the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has not yet officially predicted a cyclone, it has forecasted the formation of a low-pressure area on November 22 and a depression by November 24 over the southeast Bay of Bengal.
American meteorologist Jason Nichols has predicted that a low-pressure system will develop in the south Bay of Bengal by the end of this week, which may intensify into a cyclone by next week. Experts suggest that the storm could potentially hit Andhra Pradesh, with a possible landfall along the coast of Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu.
Weather prediction models indicate a possible timeline for the storm:
- GFS (American model): Cyclone may form by November 26–27 and cross the north Andhra coast by November 29.
- ECMWF (European model): Cyclone may develop by November 25, with a landfall expected between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on November 28–29.
According to the IMD, the low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal on November 22 will move west-northwestwards, intensifying into a depression over the central south Bay of Bengal by November 24.
Authorities in both Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are advised to remain alert, as preparatory measures may be needed depending on further forecasts. Residents along the coastlines are encouraged to follow official advisories in the coming days.
