EVM Tampering In Nuapada
Odisha’s opposition party BJD has alleged that there was a large-scale government-sponsored fraud in the Nuapada by-election. The BJD has said that it will complain to the Election Commission for justice.
A meeting of the BJD’s political affairs committee was held on Saturday under the chairmanship of opposition party leader and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. After the meeting, opposition party chief Sachetak Pramila Malik said, ‘We have complained to the Chief Electoral Officer about fraud in the by-election, but nothing has been achieved. Therefore, the political affairs committee has decided to complain to the Election Commission.’ EVMs were tampered with using government equipment and money and BJD votes were given to other parties, BJD leader Pramila Malik said, ‘Fraud took place in at least 63 polling booths. The votes of people who were given to BJD were given to other parties. It seems that the EVMs were also rigged.’ The BJD has accused the BJP of rigging EVMs, using money and power and misusing government machinery. He said, “We will also investigate at our level and expose the EVM tampering and inform the people about the BJP’s efforts to destroy democracy.”
Notably, a record 83.45 percent voter turnout was recorded in the bypolls held on November 11. BJP’s Jai Dholakia won by a margin of 83,748 votes, while BJP candidate Snehangini Chhuria was in third place. Congress candidate Ghaziram Majhi was in second place. Chhuria claimed that the voting percentage was more than 90 percent in 41 polling booths, which has created confusion among the people. The BJP has rejected these allegations and said that people have lost faith in the BJD.
