UIDAI Tightens Aadhaar Rules; Cancelled Cards Include Fraudulent and Misused IDs
UIDAI Cancels Over 2 Crore Aadhaar Cards of Deceased and Fraudulent Users: In a major move to ensure the integrity of India’s Aadhaar system, the government has cancelled more than 2 crore Aadhaar numbers, primarily of deceased persons. Additionally, Aadhaar cards linked to scams, frauds, or other wrongful activities have also been deactivated.
While this clean-up campaign by UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) is expected to strengthen the Aadhaar system, there is a possibility that some active Aadhaar cards may have been cancelled erroneously. Therefore, citizens are advised to check the status of their Aadhaar to ensure it remains active.
How to Check Aadhaar Status
There are two ways to check if your Aadhaar card has been cancelled:
- Via the UIDAI Website
- Visit the official UIDAI website and click on the “Check Aadhaar Status” option.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and submit the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- If login fails, your Aadhaar may have been cancelled.
- Via the My Aadhaar App
- Download the My Aadhaar App and follow similar steps to check your Aadhaar status.
New Aadhaar Rules
UIDAI has also updated the list of documents required to update your Aadhaar or apply for a new one. Citizens are encouraged to review the new document list before submitting applications.
This initiative is part of UIDAI’s ongoing effort to ensure the accuracy and security of the Aadhaar database, protecting citizens from identity misuse and fraud.
