PM Modi Announces Free 30-Day E-Tourist Visa for Russian Visitors: Following high-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, India and Russia signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at deepening cooperation in the port and shipping sector. The bilateral discussions also resulted in several additional agreements designed to strengthen economic and strategic ties between the two long-standing partners.
Speaking at a joint press conference with President Putin, Prime Minister Modi announced that India will soon launch e-tourist visa and group tourist visa services for Russian citizens. He confirmed that the visas will be free of charge and that processing will be completed within 30 days.
“I am pleased that we will soon launch e-tourist visa and group tourist visa services for Russian citizens. The processing will be completed within 30 days and will be free of charge,” Modi said. He added that India and Russia have also signed the Vision 2030 document, a long-term roadmap intended to boost economic cooperation and unlock new business opportunities for both nations.
During the press briefing, Modi emphasized the resilience of India–Russia relations over the last eight decades, calling the friendship a “pole star” that has remained steady through global challenges and crises. The two leaders are also set to participate in the India–Russia Business Forum, which Modi believes will further energize bilateral trade ties.
The discussions covered regional and global issues as well. Modi reiterated India’s consistent call for peace in Ukraine and expressed support for all efforts aimed at achieving a lasting and peaceful resolution. He affirmed that India remains willing to contribute constructively to peace initiatives.
Addressing security concerns, Modi highlighted the longstanding cooperation between India and Russia against terrorism. Referring to recent attacks—including the Pahalgam incident and the assault on Crocus City Hall—he stated that such acts share a common root and represent a direct attack on humanity’s core values. Modi stressed that global unity is essential in combating terrorism.
