IndiGo Crisis: Railways Offers Big Relief, Adds Coaches to Four Premium Trains
Railways Add Permanent Coaches to Premium Trains After Massive IndiGo Flight Disruptions: Air travelers have been experiencing major inconvenience over the past several days as IndiGo Airlines continues to face widespread flight cancellations and delays. To ease the pressure on stranded passengers, Indian Railways has stepped in with swift and practical measures to provide reliable travel alternatives.
Starting today (December 5, 2025), Railways has permanently added extra coaches to four of its busiest premium trains, offering immediate relief to travelers on high-demand routes. The trains receiving additional capacity include:
- Delhi–Jammu Rajdhani
- Delhi–Dibrugarh Rajdhani
- Delhi–Chandigarh Shatabdi
- Delhi–Amritsar Shatabdi
According to senior railway officials, these extra coaches have already begun operating from today itself. Passengers who were previously on the waiting list are now being allotted confirmed seats on priority.
This strategic move aims to absorb the sudden surge in demand caused by the ongoing airline disruptions, while also helping manage the increased travel rush during the festive season.
Advice for Travelers
If your upcoming IndiGo flight has been cancelled or delayed, you are advised to immediately check seat availability on these upgraded trains via the IRCTC website or mobile app.
With the addition of new coaches, the chances of securing confirmed seats—even in premium trains like Rajdhani and Shatabdi—have significantly improved, often until the last minute.
By expanding capacity on key routes, Indian Railways is ensuring that thousands of passengers stranded due to airline issues have a dependable alternative to reach their destinations without disruption.
