Debuted as an Overnight Star, Quit Bollywood Immediately, Now Worth ₹45,000 Crore
From ‘Swades’ to ₹45,000-Crore Empire: The Remarkable Journey of Actress Gayatri Joshi: In Bollywood, a single film can sometimes change the course of an actor’s life. While many struggle for years to achieve the stardom they dream of, a few shine brightly with just one standout performance before choosing an entirely different path. One such story is that of Gayatri Joshi, the actress who won hearts with her debut film and then gracefully stepped away from the limelight—only to later become part of a business empire worth ₹45,000 crore.
Gayatri Joshi, who gained nationwide recognition as Shah Rukh Khan’s co-star in the 2004 film “Swades,” entered the industry after a successful modeling career. She had earlier won the Femina Miss India International 2000 title and appeared in several memorable commercials, including the iconic Cadbury Perk ad.
Her portrayal of Geeta in Swades received widespread praise, making her one of the few actresses who earned massive appreciation with just a single film. Despite the success and promising opportunities that followed, Gayatri chose to step away from Bollywood permanently.
Born in 1977 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, into a Marathi Joshi family, Gayatri is the daughter of Ramnivas Rundala and Hema Milani and has a sister named Ahana. Before entering films, she worked as a video jockey and established herself as a sought-after model.
In 2005, just a year after Swades, Gayatri married Vikas Oberoi, the billionaire chairman and managing director of Oberoi Realty, one of India’s leading real estate giants. The couple has two sons, Vihaan and Yuva. After marriage, Gayatri focused fully on her family life and turned down film offers to raise her children.
Under Vikas Oberoi’s leadership, Oberoi Realty expanded rapidly, developing multiple landmark projects including luxury residences, commercial spaces, and the Westin Hotel in Mumbai. Today, the combined net worth of Gayatri Joshi and Vikas Oberoi is estimated at ₹45,000 crore, making their journey from cinema to corporate success truly inspirational.
