It is said in the scripture that King Dasharatha had 3 queens and none of them bore any child. All the joy of King Dasharatha and his queens was in vain. It was so because, although everything was possessed by the King, there were no children. The reason that pushed the King towards Maharishi Vashishtha was that none of his wives had any children from him. He was told to conduct a yagya for the purpose. The yagya was conducted by Maharishi Rishi Shringi for King Dasharatha, so that he could have children. Consequently, all three wives of King Dasharatha became pregnant, among whom Queen Kaushalya gave birth to Shri Ram.
