Air India flight to London with 242 passengers crashes near Ahmedabad airport

A Big Plane Crash In Ahmedabad : An Air India plane with 242 people onboard on Thursday crashed in Gujarat’s Meghani Nagar area near Ahmedabad airport. Visuals of the plane crash site shared on social media shows thick willow of smoke emanating from the area.

The aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1:39 pm from runway 23. It crashed in just five minutes after take off, according to details shared by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

“Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest on http://airindia.com and on our X handle,” Air India posted on social media. Several of the injured were taken to the city civil hospital.

Thick black smoke could be seen billowing for miles around. Some camera crews accessed the crash area and showed visuals of the wreckage.

As per preliminary reports, the aircraft crashed in a densely populated area near the airport. Immediately post the crash, local residents rushed to the area to help with rescue efforts.

-Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel has reportedly rushed to Ahmedabad from Surat to assess the situation.

-According to an ANI report, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken to the Gujarat Chief Minister, Home Minister and the Police Commissioner regarding the plane crash. He also assured to provide central government assistance.

-Air India took to X and confirmed the development in a post on X. “Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025,” it said, adding that the team continues to ascertain the details on the same.
