An airport spokesperson said that flight AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick met with an accident outside the airport shortly after takeoff this morning. The airport has been closed for the time being.

Ramila, who reached the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, said that her son had gone to the hostel during the lunch break. The plane crashed there. The son is safe and she has talked to him. He jumped from the second floor, so he suffered some injuries. Poonam Patel, who reached Ahmedabad Civil Hospital after the plane crash, said, “My sister-in-law was going to London. Within an hour I got the news that the plane has crashed. That’s why I have come here.”
