This return journey is called Bahuda Yatra. The return journey of Lord Jagannath in his chariot is also called Bahuda or South-facing Yatra. It is mentioned in the Utkal Khanda of the Skanda Purana –

The ninth day of the month of Basayeddeban, the morning of the tenth, is prosperous. The journey towards the south is beautiful and beautiful.
That is, on the ninth day, the gods are placed in chariots. This day is very prosperous. On that day, the south-facing yatra of Vishnu is very auspicious. On the eighth day, before the Bahuda yatra, all the three chariots kept at Sharadhavali are turned south and kept in front of the nose gate of the Gundicha temple.
The entire journey is divided into three parts. Of these, the Rath Yatra is one part, the second part is the residence at Gundicha Mandapa and the third part is the Bahuda Yatra to the temple up to Bahuda Bij. According to the classical description, the same results are obtained by seeing Mahaprabhu while traveling facing north during Rath Yatra, the same results are obtained by seeing the Thakurs while traveling facing south during Bahuda Yatra. It is also believed that devotees obtain the results of the horse sacrifice in this Dullava Darshan and finally attain Vaikuntha.

After a long period of karmic life, Mahaprabhu had gone to his mother’s bosom. But how could he have stayed there for so long? After all, this Thakur was teaching Karma Yoga to the entire human society. How could he have stayed with his mother without any worries? So, after staying for a few days in the Gundichha stick, Manima would go out to the field of karma again. And sitting on that jeweled throne, he would hear the sorrows of so many people.
