Bhubaneswar Ring Road Proposal Approves by Union Cabinet
Union Cabinet Approves Bhubaneswar Ring Road Proposal : The Union Cabinet today approved the construction of the Bhubaneswar Bypass Ring Road. The approval was given in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The bypass will be 110.875 km long and will be constructed on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar city. The Cabinet has approved the construction of the 6-lane ring road at an estimated cost of Rs 8307.74 crore.

Currently, the National Highway from Rameswaram to Tangi is facing heavy congestion due to heavy traffic. It passes through the highly urbanized cities of Khordha, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. To address these challenges, the project is proposed to be developed as a 6-lane access-controlled greenfield highway. The project will allow heavy commercial vehicles to travel in and out of the cities of Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Khurda without having to enter. This will reduce congestion to a great extent.
The project will connect 3 major national highways NH-55, NH-57 and NH-655. It will also connect one state highway SH-65. It will develop major economic, social and logistics sectors in Odisha.
In addition, the enhanced corridor will enhance multi-modal connectivity by connecting 10 economic nodes, 04 social nodes and 05 logistics nodes. It will provide enhanced multi-modality with one major railway station, one airport, one proposed Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) and two major ports, thereby facilitating rapid movement of goods and passengers across the region.
This bypass will play a vital role in regional economic growth. It is expected to strengthen connectivity between major religious and financial centres. It will also open new avenues for trade and industrial development. The project will generate about 74.43 lakh direct job days and 93.04 lakh indirect job days. It will open new avenues for growth, development and prosperity in the surrounding areas.
