Stardom flops in politics, maithili thakur own the race

Singing and popularity didn’t have much impact in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Candidates contesting in all seats except Aliganj lost. Maithili Thakur of the BJP defeated Vinod Mishra in Aliganj.

The Bihar Assembly elections were a setback for celebrity candidates and prominent figures in Bhojpuri cinema. Only Maithili Thakur, a prominent singing star, emerged victorious from Alinagar on a BJP ticket. She won the Bihar Assembly elections by a margin of 11,730 votes. Among other candidates in Bihar, actor-singer Khesari Lal Yadav, who contested from Chhapra, also lost.

Singer Ritesh Pandey lost the election. He contested from the Kargahar assembly seat. Pawan Singh’s wife, Jyoti Singh, also lost. She contested from Karakat. All lost in their respective constituencies, failing to convert their singing popularity into votes.

Who got how many votes?
According to the Election Commission of India, after 25 rounds of counting, Maithili Thakur received a total of 84,915 votes. Maithili defeated Vinod Mishra of the RJD, who received 73,185 votes. Abdul Bari Siddiqui (RJD) won this seat in 2010 and 2015. In 2020, Mishri Lal Yadav (VIP) won the seat.

According to the Election Commission, RJD’s Shatrughan Yadav, also known as Khesari Yadav, lost the Chhapra seat after 30 rounds of counting, garnering 79,245 votes. BJP’s Chhoti Kumari received 86,845 votes, while independent candidate Rakhi Gupta trailed closely with 11,488 votes.

A major reversal occurred
This assembly election saw a major turnaround. The BJP won a total of 89 seats, while the JDU dominated 85. The RJD was reduced to just 25. The Lok Jan Shakti Party won 19 seats, and the Congress won only six. The AIMIM performed well in this election, winning five seats. The Hindustan Awam Party also won five seats.
