Call of Duty Co-Creator Vince Zampella Dies in Fatal Ferrari Crash at 55: Vince Zampella, the renowned co-creator of the legendary video game franchise Call of Duty, has died in a car accident at the age of 55. Electronic Arts confirmed the news, stating that the developer and executive passed away on Sunday while driving his Ferrari on a road north of Los Angeles.

The California Highway Patrol reported that two people were in Zampella’s Ferrari when it crashed. Zampella died at the scene, while the other passenger succumbed to injuries at a hospital. The identity of the second passenger has not yet been released. Video footage of the accident shows the Ferrari speeding through a hilly area, losing control, crashing into a roadside barrier, and catching fire. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.

Zampella was widely recognized as a pioneer in the first-person military shooter genre. He co-founded Infinity Ward in 2002 and helped launch the first Call of Duty game in 2003. Over the past two decades, his games have won the hearts of more than 100 million players worldwide, with Call of Duty maintaining over 100 million active monthly users. This year, his game Battlefield 6 set a new sales record, a milestone Zampella described as humbling despite his long and successful career.

Electronic Arts released a statement mourning his loss: “This is an unimaginable loss, and our thoughts are with Vince’s family, his loved ones, and everyone affected by his work. Vince’s impact on the video game industry was profound and far-reaching. His work helped shape modern interactive entertainment.”

After leaving Activision under controversial circumstances, Zampella founded Respawn Entertainment in 2010, which was later acquired by Electronic Arts in 2017. He also led the revival of the Battlefield franchise, cementing his legacy as one of the most influential figures in modern gaming. Vince Zampella’s sudden death is a huge loss to the gaming industry, leaving behind a legacy that has shaped interactive entertainment for millions of players worldwide.
