Big news for students studying in CBSE board. The Central Board of Secondary Education will conduct board exams twice a year in the academic year 2026-27. To keep the students stress-free, there will be 2 board exams in a year. This change will be effective from 2026. The exams will be held in February and May.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has brought a major reform in its examination system for class 10 students. According to the latest decision of the board, from 2026, CBSE will conduct the class 10 board examination twice a year. The CBSE examination controller has clarified that there is a slight bias. So, the first examination will be compulsory and the second examination will be optional. The one with the highest marks in the examination will be accepted.

Students will be given additional opportunities to improve their performance. As per the newly approved draft guidelines, the Class 10 board exams will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be held between February and March, while the second phase is scheduled for May. Both the exams will cover the entire syllabus, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of the knowledge and skills of the students.
Similarly, CBSE will make science and social science syllabus available at two levels from class IX from next year. The CBSE governing body has approved this new syllabus. CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh has given this information. The draft syllabus will be prepared based on the new National Education Policy. There will be two levels for science and social science. One is standard and the other is advanced. Which of these two options will be chosen will depend entirely on the students.
It is worth noting that on February 18, the Education Minister announced that the opinion of the general public was taken on holding board exams twice a year. The government has emphasized on creating an environment for students to learn in a tension-free environment. The Education Minister, School Education Secretary, CBSE Chairman and the Ministry and CBSE and other officials were consulted on this matter.
