New Type OF Number Plate: Govt. proposes dual-colour number plates for hydrogen vehicles
Central Govt Proposes New Registration Plate For Hydrogen Vehicles: The Transport Ministry has proposed a new series of number plates for hydrogen-fuelled cars and other vehicles. . According to a draft notification released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Friday, a commercial vehicle that runs on hydrogen will have yellow numbers on its plate, with the upper half of the plate being green and the lower half being blue. The numbers on private vehicles will be white, with the top half of the plate being green and the bottom half being blue. Similar to this, the numbers on a hired taxi’s license plate will be yellow, with the top half being black and the bottom half blue.
What are hydrogen-fueled vehicles?
Vehicles that power an electric motor with hydrogen as fuel are known as hydrogen cars. They function by combining hydrogen and oxygen in a fuel cell, which generates water and electricity as byproducts. Compared to traditional cars, hydrogen vehicles offer a number of benefits, including long range, high efficiency, and zero emissions. They can also help us breathe cleaner air and lessen our reliance on fossil fuels.

Hydrogen Cars in India
Hydrogen cars are not new to India. India was one of the first countries to experiment with hydrogen cars in the early 2000s, when Indian Oil Corporation and Mahindra & Mahindra jointly developed a hydrogen-powered three-wheeler. Since then, India has made some progress in the field of hydrogen cars, but it still faces many challenges and has many opportunities. There are positive outlooks for hydrogen cars in India.
Mileage of hydrogen-fueled cars
Hydrogen-fueled cars have a lower efficiency of about 50%. They lose some energy during the production, storage and transformation of hydrogen. Hydrogen fuel safety standards will include pressure relief valves, rupture discs and sensors that prevent overpressure and leakage of the hydrogen tank. Mileage usually varies due to driving patterns, models and road conditions. Still, you can expect 250 kilometers on a kilogram of hydrogen.
