Record of selling 1 lakh cups of tea in a day .
Chai Point gained immense popularity during the recent Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj and on several key days its shops sold up to one lakh cups of tea a day. The idea of forming Chai Point came to Khanna in 2009 while sipping hot tea at a cafe in Mumbai with his student Amuleek Singh Bijral.

How did the idea come?
Khanna, a professor at Harvard University, said, “A small boy was selling tea in plastic cups to customers on the roadside. Such Chotus (this is how people often address young boys working at tea stalls) as they are called, serve tea to millions of people in very bad plastic cups and the hygiene is also not very good. Then the idea came that why can’t we provide authentic, tasty and high quality tea to people at an affordable price in hygienic ways and also provide employment to Chotus.”

The items at its outlets are available at much lower prices than many big cafe chains.

9 lakh cups of tea are sold every day
Khanna said that at present we have about 1,400 employees. For every one store opened, six additional employees are appointed and thus the number of employees will increase by 95 percent as the number of stores increases. On the shops opened in Prayagraj on the occasion of Maha Kumbh, he said, we sell about 9,00,000 cups of tea daily. On the main days, a little more than one lakh cups of tea were sold every day. This number is now gradually decreasing.
What is the share?
On the question of listing the company, he said, we are working towards getting listed and our target is to get listed by May 2026. Currently, the founders, employees and early investors hold about 25 percent stake in the company. The rest is held by institutional investors
