IAS Chanchal Rana takes charge as 17th BMC Commissioner
Chanchal Rana takes charge as BMC Commissioner. He took charge as the 17th BMC Commissioner. In-charge Commissioner Ratnakar Sahu has handed over the responsibility to him. Today, on the first day, a meeting is being held with various BMC officials. Discussions are being held on the future course of action. Chanchal Rana was earlier in charge as Puri District Magistrate. He took charge as Puri District Magistrate after the Rath Yatra incident.
Rana took charge as the 17th BMC Commissioner today. Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo handed him the charge today. BMC Mayor Sulochana Das welcomed her in the office. Soon after taking the charge as the BMC Commissioner, he called for a meeting of the officials. The meeting revolved around the working method to be adopted in the coming days.

He was appointed as the Puri Collector for a short term of around a month prior to appointment as the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corportation (BMC) Commissioner.

Similary, 2021 batch IAS officer Kirandeep Kaur Sahota, who was working as the Sub-Collector, Gunupur in Rayagada district was appointed as the Commissioner of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation. She had been appointed as the Gunupur Sub-Collector in June 2025, while still undergoing district training.
