End of Char Dham Yatra 2025: Kedarnath and Yamunotri Temples Closed for the Season

Char Dham Yatra Season Ends: Gates of Kedarnath and Yamunotri Dham Closed for Six Months: The gates of the sacred Kedarnath temple were closed for the winter season amid chants and devotion on Thursday morning. The temple doors will remain shut for the next six months as Baba Kedar’s worship shifts to the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, the deity’s designated winter abode. Before the closure, thousands of devotees gathered to seek blessings, with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also present to witness the spiritually charged moment.

According to temple tradition, after the closure, the Panchmukhi Doli (palanquin) of Lord Kedarnath departed for Ukhimath. On the first night, the Doli will rest at Rampur, reach Guptkashi on October 24, and finally arrive at the Omkareshwar Temple on October 25. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the six-month-long worship of Baba Kedar at his winter seat. Similarly, the Yamunotri Dham gate was closed for the winter at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, with the idol of Goddess Yamuna moved to Kharsali village for the cold season.

Despite challenges posed by harsh weather and difficult terrain, this year’s Kedarnath Yatra saw an impressive turnout. Over 16.56 lakh devotees visited Kedarnath for darshan, while 14.53 lakh reached Badrinath. The closing of the temple marks the end of the Char Dham Yatra season, which will reopen in the spring with renewed fervor and faith.

The doors of the Yamunotri temple were closed at 12:30 pm. The festive idol of Mother Yamuna, led by Shanidev Maharaj, departed for Kharsali village. Now, devotees will be able to visit Mother Yamuna in Kharsali village for the next six months.
