Chinese Scientists Develop Groundbreaking Bone Glue That Heals Fractures in Just 3 Minutes
Chinese Scientists Create ‘Bone Glue’ That Repairs Fractures: In a major medical breakthrough, scientists in Jiangyin, eastern China, have developed a revolutionary bone adhesive named Bone 02 that can heal fractures in under three minutes. This innovation could drastically reduce the need for traditional surgeries involving plates, screws, and rods—procedures that often take hours and require months of recovery. The development was first reported by Global Times, citing local media Jiangyin Online.
Dr. Lin Xianfeng, who led the research team and serves as an associate chief orthopedic surgeon at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital (affiliated with Jiangsu University), revealed that the glue works effectively even in blood-rich environments. The injectable adhesive forms a strong bond between fractured bones, significantly cutting down surgical time and recovery periods. Unlike conventional treatments, Bone 02 is naturally absorbed by the body, removing the need for additional surgeries to extract metal implants.
What makes Bone 02 even more fascinating is its bio-inspired design. Dr m . Lin was inspired by oysters, which adhere strongly to wet surfaces like underwater structures. The glue mimics this property, allowing it to bond well in the moist internal environment of the human body. Lab tests have shown that the adhesive has a bone-bonding force of 400 pounds, with impressive shear and compressive strength, making it a promising alternative to traditional orthopedic procedures.
