Cloudburst In Devbhoomi: Heavy Rains Damage Roads, Home, Shops: Uttarakhand continues to face the wrath of torrential rains, with a deadly cloudburst striking Dehradun’s Sahastradhara area late Monday night, leading to massive destruction and at least 10 deaths. Several hotels and shops were swept away by debris in the Cardigad market area. Local village head Rakesh Jawadi reported that around 100 people were trapped but rescued by villagers. A few individuals are still reported missing, and search operations are underway.
Relief and rescue efforts have been hampered by heavy debris blocking roads, delaying the arrival of SDRF and fire department teams. JCB machines from the Public Works Department have been deployed to clear the routes. Meanwhile, the Tamsa River turned furious, submerging the Shivling at Dehradun’s Tapkeshwar Temple, prompting an evacuation of the temple premises. Rising water levels in the Song River have led police to issue alerts and evacuate people living near riverbanks.
In Mussoorie’s Jhadipani area, debris from a landslide buried a workers’ accommodation, resulting in the death of one worker and injury to another. Prompt action by local residents and police helped rescue the injured. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief over the incident and confirmed that relief and rescue operations are ongoing, assuring the public that he is personally monitoring the situation in coordination with district officials.
