Cyclone Montha is approaching. The weather forecast has predicted that it will make landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The possible impact of the cyclone and heavy rain is likely to affect Gajapati district. Therefore, the district administration has taken extensive measures to deal with the cyclone and the various problems that may arise due to it.
The leave of all government employees in the district has been cancelled till 30th. Similarly, 7 senior OAS officers have been appointed as nodal officers for 7 blocks of the district. The District Magistrate has directed that all cyclone shelters in the district be kept ready and, if necessary, be ready to immediately evacuate the people who may be affected.
The District Magistrate has also ordered to keep dry food in stock and to provide cooked food where required. Similarly, it has been asked to keep generators in stock in all government and cyclone shelters. As there is a risk of landslides in various places in Gajapati district in case of light rain, the District Magistrate has ordered to keep JCBs ready at various places.
The District Collector has requested the Relief Commissioner to send two ODRAF teams to deal with the situation. All schools and colleges in the district have been ordered to remain closed till the 30th for the safety of children. The administration has also decided to close various tourist attractions in the district for the safety of tourists.
