Cyclone ‘Montha’ is approaching. It is likely to make landfall near Kakinada between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh after 28th evening. The wind speed at the time of landfall may be 90 to 100 kmph. This was informed by Manorma Mohanty, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

Due to the influence of a possible cyclone, heavy rainfall is likely in Odisha on the 28th and 29th. Winds may blow at a speed of 60 to 70 kmph in South Odisha. Winds may blow at a speed of 50 to 70 kmph in coastal Puri and Khurda as well as Kandhamal.

According to the information received from the Meteorological Department, the low pressure area formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal at 5:30 pm yesterday and has developed into a well-defined low pressure area in that area. It has intensified into a depression and remained in that area till 5:30 am today. It is located 990 km southeast of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, 990 km east-southeast of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, 1000 km southeast of Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh and 1040 km south-southeast of Gopalpur in Odisha.

According to information, Cyclone ‘Montha’ may intensify into a severe cyclonic storm on the 28th and make landfall during the evening to night. A review meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari regarding the possible cyclone. After the meeting, the minister said that about 15 districts of the state are likely to be affected due to this cyclone. Especially the southern and coastal districts may be affected. Even if the cyclone changes direction, the government is prepared. The Water Resources, Panchayati Raj, Agriculture and Power departments have been alerted. All steps have been taken after looking at past experiences. If anyone is living in a water-logged area, cooked food will be provided. Priority is being given to saving people’s lives. The cyclone will affect Odisha for two days, 28 and 29.
